Gives a glimpse into an autistic person's thinking The first part of this book, however, is fantastic, and if you are at all interested in finding out what it is like to experience the world with autism, check out this book. ![]() It seems a bit like an owner's manual for autism, which isn't as interesting to me, which is why I knocked it down a star. The latter half of this book gets pretty technical, and starts to talk about autism, various treatments, education, upbringing, etc. ![]() I always wondered if I was a little aspergerish, but after I read this book, I realized that I'm not. She is able to describe it well enough that I feel like I can fairly well wrap my head around autism, and what it must be like. Temple Grandin clearly and eloquently describes what it is like to be autistic, and how her mind works. I don't know how we got to discussing that. I got this book on a whim, a friend of mine had mentioned it during a long discussion about how being sociopaths probably succeed more in business. ![]()

He emphasized that the friend in question “did not have business before the court”.īut a close look at Thomas’s judicial activities from the time he became friends with Crow, in the mid-1990s, suggests that the statement might fall short of the full picture. That’s why I chose to read Uncanny Valley by Anna Wiener. As the old saying goes, if you’re not paying for the product, then you are the product.īecause I work in this echo chamber, I find it interesting when a person outside the industry shares their perspective on what goes on inside of it. Why the paranoia? I don’t trust that any of those companies have our personal privacy and best interests at heart. For example, I’m careful, some may even say paranoid, about how much information I share on social media, if any at all. It’s easy to forget that people outside the industry don’t understand what goes on behind the scenes in the software, websites, and mobile apps they use. When you work in the technology space like I do, reality gets distorted. ![]() 5/28/2023 0 Comments A song about myself poem![]() Throughout the poem, Whitman probes the question of how large the new democratic self can become before it dissipates into contradiction and fragmentation, and each time he seems to reach the limit, he dilates even more. ![]() When we come to see just how vast the self can be, what can we do but celebrate it by returning to it again and again? He sets out to expand the boundaries of the self to include, first, all fellow Americans, then the entire world, and ultimately the cosmos. ![]() He “celebrates” that self, and the etymology of the word “celebrate” indicates “to return to” or “to frequent.” The whole poem will be Whitman’s record of the self expanding out into the world, absorbing more and more experience, then contracting back into the self, discovering that he can contain and hold the wild diversity of experience that he keeps encountering on his journeys through the world. ![]() ![]() Instead of invoking the muse to allow him to sing the epic song of war, rage, and distant journeys, Whitman becomes his own muse, singing himself and announcing that the subject of his epic will be himself. Whitman opens his poem with a conventional iambic pentameter line, as if to suggest the formal openings of the classic epics, before abandoning metrics for a free-flowing line with rhythms that shift and respond to the moment. ![]() 5/28/2023 0 Comments Sylvia plath linda wagner martin![]() ![]() The themes in Plath's poetry and prose that Wagner-Martin examines include "Plath's Hospital Writing", "Plath's Poems about Women", as well as "Recalling the Bell Jar" and "Lifting the Bell Jar", amongst others. ![]() There was no other aim for Sylvia Plath." However I felt that during the middle of this book the pacing really slowed down as the book started focusing more on the growing relationship between Mara and Noah.
